Binne Vries - Director

Binne VriesBinne joined International Fiscal Services in 2006 and became a Director of the company in 2007.  His main area of practice is to  assist corporate clients on a wide variety of tax issues.  He was attracted by IFS’ international perspective applied without the restrictions of working from within one particular jurisdiction.

Binne has an MSc in Economics and LLM in Law, both from the University of Amsterdam, and was an active member of the bar for the Supreme Court, The Hague.  His tax career started as a specialist tax lawyer for Loyens & Loeff, a leading Dutch firm.  Moving to London in 1996 he worked with PepsiCo, Enron Europe and International Masters Publishers for the next 10 years.  As Head of Global Taxation for IMP Limited, Binne was responsible for all group tax affairs and travelled extensively to work with different cultures and locations.

At IFS, Binne specialises in cross-border tax structuring, mergers, takeovers and joint ventures advising on transfer pricing issues and inter company arrangements.  Leveraging his corporate experience, he relishes finding pragmatic and effective tax solutions for international businesses.

Currently, compliance and tax risk management are important market issues that create a risk adverse tendency for tax saving structures.  But Binne believes that increased competition, from places such as India and Asia Pacific, will bring the focus back onto tax as “cost of doing business” to be proactively managed and controlled.  The resulting increase in international activity bodes well for IFS’ blue-chip corporate specialist.

Binne regularly travels to Ireland for mountain biking, wind surfing and golfing. He has also joined a London cycling club and hopes to beat his existing personal best for the 100 mile time trial in the near future.
